Relax your shoulders. Check if you’re frowning. Take an intentional breath. This is your encouragement to let something the fuck go. To stop holding on so tightly to things you can’t control. To loosen your grip. Take what you need and leave the rest:
You have permission:
• To let go of the need to control other people’s perception of you. That shit is exhausting. Be you. Let people react how they’re going to react. Know that you don’t have to take their opinions as fact.
• To let go of the need to be perfect. Don’t do your best work. Get something wrong. Fail. Give yourself a break in advance.
• To let go of the pressure of society’s timeline. Creating your own timeline is brave af.
• To let go of the need to know what you’re doing with your life at all! It’s perfectly okay to follow the things that feel like “you” and let the rest unfold.
• To let go of the need to know everything. We’re all still learning here.
• To let go of the numbers: calories, pounds, followers, scores. None of them could ever come close to defining you anyway.
• To let go of relationships that leave you drained, self-doubting, feeling small, misunderstood, or unappreciated.
• To let go of the idea that every day should be productive in some way. Rest, my love.
• To let go of that thing you agreed to do that you don’t really want or need to do.
• To let go of the expectation that you should be able to fix everything all by yourself.
• To let go of the guilt that never should have belonged to you.
• To let go of mistakes that Past You made.
• To let go.
Because holding on so tightly doesn’t give us the control we think it does. It doesn’t stop things from going wrong, it doesn’t guarantee things will go right. It just turns our knuckles white and stops the air from being able to get in.
You have permission to let go, and breathe.
You deserve to breathe.
Love,
M
I just wanted to say how much I love your newsletter! I enjoy reading it so much and I am always happy to find it in my inbox! I am learning so much and it always puts a smile on my face and provides me with a great start into the day. :) thank you for writing this and for being such a great person! <3
How do you always write exactly what I need? This made me teary-eyed, and lightened some of the burden I’ve been dragging along all week. Thank you.
