Welcome to Read, Shake, Appreciate! This is your fortnightly round-up of words that made me feel inspired, songs that made me shake my ass, and people who I think deserve some spotlight. This week I’m reading and writing a shit tonne of poetry bc it’s the absolute best heartbreak remedy as far as I’m concerned. And I’d love to share a bit more of mine with you since you’re my most supportive people (thank you 🥰). Here’s something I wrote this week:
I love reading your poetry, Megan. I think poetry is such a beautiful, healing art when it’s done with honesty. The messages we get as women- how we should be in relationships, what it means to be “good”, the way anything short of self-annihilation is seen as being selfish- are so ingrained it takes years to peel through the layers, I think, even after we feel we’ve “woken up.” I love seeing you take step after step to reclaim yourself and your right to full personhood. Thank you for sharing ❤️
