I don’t know, I feel like giving so much attention is ofc going to work the opposite direction, BUT it’s also important to give more vulnerable people (people with ED’s or younger people, categories in which I both fall in to) the message that what they’re doing is extremely unrealistic and sometimes even unhealthy. I mean, for me it definitely helped to see some creators call them out and to get that wake-upcall.

So I feel like if we talk about those issues that we shouldn’t address the Kardashians in particular, because otherwise we would give them more attention then they already have. But more so talking about those things in general, you know?

I never understood people's obsession with them. I never kept up, because they don't have anything useful to contribute to my life.

I choose to scroll, scroll, scroll and never click on anything to do with any of them. Their 15 minutes were up so long ago and they just sicken me. I’m with you, let’s stop giving them the attention they so clearly get off on!

This is such a good point. I wish we'd all just ignore them. If we did that, their power would vanish overnight and we could focus on people who actually do good and important things.

I wish I didn’t care but it feels like they’re everywhere and as much as I wish to say “I don’t care” I still can’t stop the anger. They are so full of privilege and they infuriate me because they have the power to do so much better but they don’t! You’re so right Megs! They want us talking about them no matter if those comments are negative/positive/neutral/etc. I’m working on trying to keep my feed more positive and less focused on what I don’t want to see, but it sure is hard because you can’t customize your feed perfectly and at some point upsetting posts will pop up. Although, I believe we have the power to stop giving them the power too!

I wish we could stop talking about them so they would stop getting all the publicity they need. It’s impossible not to somehow or another.

I get a weekly magazine and there's certain people if there's an article on them, I just don't read the pages. I don't follow anything about them, it's a waste of time and energy as it's always the same toxic crap they do and say. While I haven't put the Kardashians in this category yet, I do see their faults. And I agree that to the Kardashians PR as long as people are talking about them, they don't care what it is their talking about. So not talking about them may be the way to go if people don't want to interact with their stories and social medias.

I don't keep up with them, but from what I have heard, they are awful! Yes, I get pissed off at their privilege, but I'm not going to feed that fire. I just get on with my own life

I do think one of the positives is that I saw a lot more comments saying how bad Kim’s comment was on fitting into her dress than admiration and that spreads the word further to people outside of the body positive community. Diet culture is so ingrained that people don’t question it but hopefully they saw someone’s post on the impact of Kim’s words and were maybe a bit kinder to themselves!

Here’s the thing that I keep coming back to when issues like this come up: what can I control? What action empowers me to live the life I want to live? I absolutely feel that in an ideal world, the Kardashians would get zero airtime, and nobody would buy anything they’re selling, but I think it’s pretty clear that we don’t live in an ideal world, and I don’t have the power to make enough people stop supporting them to affect their income. From my perspective, your work with body positivity does far more to combat a family like the Kardashians than any rant about them could. When we fully understand the harm that diet culture has done, stop being body-obsessed, and love ourselves as we are well…the Kardashians become pretty dang uninspiring yeah?

I really like your point and acted on it immediately. Cause after reading the title my first reflex was to google said picture and get very angry. Then I chose to read your article first and then chose not to google it. And to just leave it there. I'm not using instagram anymore in order to curate better what information and pictures I take in and now I realised that this only makes sense if I don't let those type of people enter my world through another way. I think not keeping up with someone and not talking about them is such a powerful way to keep them out of your personal world. Obviously I would not apply that to politicians or so, whom I dislike, cause that would mean not facing reality. But I find it an amazing idea to apply this to insignificant people of whom I don't even know why they are known all over the world.

This was my first thought too when I saw all the posts. I thought, oh they just know this will get attention. No one in 2022 is oblivious to the backlash against diet culture. They’ve done it numerous times, I remember when they were promoting appetite suppressing lollies or some shit. If we all stopped talking about them then they’d probably try and find a conscience, but until then, they just will do whatever it takes to stay relevant.

I just don't even waste may brain energy on them.....for this exact reason. You're so right, bad publicity is still publicity in their eyes.

I've never watched them, I think they're deeply harmful and problematic on so many levels. They're also thriving on the oxygen that these clusterfuxk give them and I do so so love to rail against that. If we can cut off their supply hopefully they'll wither away...

I can NOT stand them. Famous for being famous. I block the name everywhere. If I never saw another one of them again it would be too soon.
